Often allotment sites like to welcome the public, particularly to open days, prize givings or flower and vegetable shows. These are happy, enjoyable events, but they need organisation and, occasionally, accidents can happen and things can go wrong. In this case if the proper precautions, such as arranging suitable insurance, have been neglected organisers can find themselves in real problems. On this page there are links to documents offering advice and/or checklists followed by organisers of such events. If your association has written records of how you manage open days etc. , please, please help inexperienced sites and send a copy to us at webmaster@sags.org.uk.

  • An Event Guide produced by Glasgow City Council. This large but useful, document covers all the legal requirements for running a community event - such as an allotment open day. It gives advice on organisation, funding, suppliers, insurance and the help that can be obtained from council departments and officials.......
  • An open day checklist produced and used by Holmlea Gardens Allotments Association. This provides an excellent guide on how to run a (fairly elaborate) fund raising open day event.
